I really enjoyed my trip from Ulaanbaatar to Moscow. The staff on board were so friendly and made delicious soup everyday. The 2nd class carriage was comfortable and I was very happy and relaxed.

The 3 trains on the Irkutsk to Ulaanbaatar (Ulan Bator) route run 3-4 times a week, making 7 stops on the 1113 km journey to Mongolia’s capital, while companion trains operate on the return Ulaanbaatar to Irkutsk route. The journey takes about 22.5 hours to complete.
It does not, however snacks and beverages may be purchased from the conductor. And bringing your own food is always an option.
Passport control is handled on the train. There will be a 3–4-hour period during which passengers will be restricted to their cabins while the border crossing is processed Since the train crosses the Russian-Mongolian border overnight, make sure your visas have the correct issue dates.
A visa will likely be required, depending on your country’s relationship with Mongolia. If you do need one, get it before boarding, as you cannot get a visa onboard the Irkutsk - Ulan Bator train.
When the train is in Russia, rubles are accepted. Mongolian tughrik are accepted once it crosses into Mongolia.
The train will pass Lake Baikal, but most of its run is at night.
