Vitaliy Votolevsky, the Head of Railway Station Directorate, has commented that the renovated Railway station of Nizhny Novgorod is the best Railway station in Russia. It was possible to complete all the construction works within a record short time, moreover, the station continued to function during the reconstruction works.

More than 200 workers have participated in the project. The working area has covered more than 10 000 sq. m. By the end of the works, the railway station has received 1200 sq. m. extra space. All general utilities, including ventilation, illumination, heating were upgraded. The LED lights have been installed throughout the area. Two new departure lounges, a playground and market area have been opened on the second floor. In addition to all above mentioned, the floor pavement, interiors, armchairs and the 42 stained-glass windows were completely renovated.
According to Gleb Nikitin, special attention should be paid to the latest technologies introduced at the station, convenience for the movement of low-mobility passengers, as well as compliance with transport safety standards.
It should be noted that the new system "Smart Station" has been installed at Nizhny Novgorod station, which allows monitoring the operation of the basic life support systems 24 hours a day: ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, heating, etc. Electronic displays and voice announcements now work in automatic mode, and announcements are now made automatically in two languages (Russian and English). The station also has free Wi-Fi and terminals for charging mobile devices.
The navigation for the passengers with disabilities through the railway station has been thought out to the smallest detail. The main routes for the passengers with disabilities are indicated with the tactile plates. The building has 5 passenger elevators, 2 escalators and 5 ramps with metal fences and handrails. Preventive tactile indicators are provided in front of doorways and staircases.
470 CCTV cameras are installed as part of the transport security measures at the station. In addition, during the FIFA-2018 ™ World Cup, the number of inspection points will be increased from 14 to 18 with a total capacity of more than 7 thousand people per hour.
