The East-Siberian Railway will allocate 25 milliard rubles for modernization of Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and Trans-Siberian Railway. The information was provided by the deputy director of the railway Alexandr Parshikov.
" 25 milliard rubles are planned for this year's modernization and maintenance works. This equals to the amount of investments that were made last year" - commented Alexandr Parshikov.
Earlier, in the mass media it was announced that East-Siberian Railway will conduct the financial examination of the project, which can lead to the shortening of the financial support. The main investment object is the 7-kilometer long Baikal tunnel on the border between Irkutsk and Buryatia region. The reconstruction of the tunnel would make this part of the railway double lined. The modernization is planned to be over in 2019; the carrying capacity of the railway is expected to double.
The East-Siberian Railway goes through the Buryat Republic and Irkutsk region. The length of track in use is 3.8 thousand kilometers.
