Polar bears Kai and Gerda from Novosibirsk Zoo gave birth to their second calf. Their first calf named Shilka now lives in Japan.
According to the official website of Novosibirsk Zoo, the calf was born on December 7th, 2015. Until recently, visitors couldn't see him, but now the bear is grown up enough to go out to the visitors. The bear's gender is not known yet. In the first months of of his life, polar bear calf is always next to his mom. 'Bear Gerda once proves to be a great mom," - the Zoo representative says.
Access to the cage of Gerda and the baby bear is now limited, but there is a video camera inside the enclosure, and some videos are available on the Zoo's website. Kai, the bear's father, has bee in a separate enclosure after the calf's birth.
This is the second calf of Gerda and Kai. The first one - Shilka - was born 2 years ago and has become one of the most famous zoo animals. Now the bear lives in the Osaka Zoo. Prior to this a polar bear born at Novosibirsk Zoo in 1972.
Novosibirsk Zoo is concidered to be the best one in Russia and takes the 18th place in the global rating accordint to TripAdvisor.
