Jubilee train ‘The Road of Discoveries’ dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the 50th anniversary of the ‘Rossiya’ train arrived in Vladivostok on October 17th.  During the 6-day trip, its passengers had chance to watch watch documentaries and educational programs filmed with the support of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS).

 

The famous ‘Rossiya’ train which operates on Moscow to Vladivostok route was specially decorated to commemorate the anniversaries: posters inside the train tell about the history of Trans-Siberian Railway, maps and photographs are dedicated to the construction and launch of the road, landscape shots show the beauty of the lands the train passes on its way. 

 

The joined project of the Russian Railways and the Russian Geographical Society was launched on October 11th at Yaroslavsky Railway Station in Moscow when the jubilee train set off from the capital to Vladivostok. 

 

Passengers of other trains will also have chance to watch documentaries and educational programs created for the anniversary. Besides this, as a part of the project, starting from October 11th and up to March 11th 2017, lectures and master classes by scientists, hikers, photographers and members of the Geographical Society  will be held at the train stations of the most important Trans-Siberian cities, such as Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, and Vladivostok. 

 

The ‘Rossiya’ train (#001/002) operates on the longest passenger train route on Earth which passes through the territory of one country and crossed almost the entire Eurasia. The length of the route is 9288 km. In 2016, train celebrates the 50th anniversary; its first trip took place on September 30th, 1966. During these 50 years the ‘Rossiya’ remains an iconic train for Russian Railways.
